SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY GRAD OPENS BAKERY NEAR OHIO HOMETOWN
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ashley Graham, a 23-year-old who graduated from Sullivan University in 2016 with a degree in Bakery and Pastry, has realized her dream of opening a bakery in Louisville.
Louisville, Ohio, that is.
Graham, who grew up and attended high school in the Canton, Ohio, area, has opened In the Mix Bakery in Louisville, a small northeastern Ohio community of about 9,000 near her hometown.
“When I grew up, I was always in the kitchen with my mom, learning how to bake and dreaming of someday opening my own bakery,” Graham said. “Today, my mom and I are back in the kitchen, only now it’s in the kitchen of my own bakery. Sullivan University helped me make my dream come true.”
Graham learned about Sullivan University while she was in high school and studying in the culinary program at R.G. Drage Career Technical Center in Massillon, Ohio.
In the Mix specializes in custom cakes, cupcakes, pies, tarts, muffins, brownies and cookies as well as baked goods for weddings and events. For now, she is taking and filling pre-orders but is planning to offer full bakery services including once as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
“We are looking forward to when customers can come in to the bakery and buy from us,” Graham said.
While at Sullivan, Graham also learned about the business side of owning and running a bakery and has the resourcefulness of a seasoned entrepreneur. She found the location for the bakery through her boyfriend’s uncle and purchased bakery ovens off Craigslist from a pizza roll company that had gone out of business.
“I learned so much at Sullivan,” Graham said. “I actually looked forward to going to school, baking, trying and learning new things and hanging out with my teachers and classmates.”
“I’m always going to look back,” she said, “and appreciate that Sullivan helped me make this happen.”
