College of Allied Health

Sullivan University’s College of Allied Health offers programs designed to meet the needs of the healthcare industry, preparing graduates with the education, experience, and credentials employers expect. The College provides several programs with a range of degrees from certificates to associate degrees, focusing on clinical skills, communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Admission requirements may include background checks, immunizations, and program-specific criteria. Students must earn a grade of C or better in all core courses, with detailed policies outlined in the program handbook(s) and/or academic catalog.

Health Information Management program

Sullivan University’s Health Information Management program prepares students for critical roles in managing health data by blending financial, administrative, and clinical expertise. The curriculum offers in-depth learning in medical coding, healthcare reimbursement, and the legal aspects of health information. All students are required to complete an on-site practicum in the last quarter of study.

Medical Assistant program

Sullivan University’s Medical Assistant program offers a path to a stable healthcare career. The program is completed online with a mandatory one-week on-campus bootcamp for hands-on skill development. Students then move into clinical rotations, gaining practical experience to prepare for the demands of the medical field.

Due to facility availability, externship hours must be completed during the day. All MSS and BIO courses require a minimum 70% C for successful completion. Degree requires a combination of face-to-face, hybrid, or online courses. Students are required to perform all competencies and skills instruction, practices, and check-offs in the face-to-face environment either on campus or with an approved preceptor depending on the course.

Medical Assisting Diploma

Sullivan University’s Medical Assisting Diploma offered in Lexington is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Limited Medical Radiography Diploma

Accreditation

Sullivan University’s Limited Medical Radiography Diploma program is approved by the Kentucky Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (KBMIRT).

Admissions information

In addition to the general Sullivan University admission requirements, applicants must pass background and drug screenings and meet all vaccination requirements. Additionally, students must meet at least one of the following:

  • NEX:

  • ACT: 19

  • High school diploma

  • At least 1 year of college with GPA of ≥2.0

Progression information

All courses require a C or better for successful completion. Core Courses require a minimum 78% “C,” and General Education/Support courses require a minimum 70% “C.”

The LMR clinical requirement consists of 360 hours. Due to availability of clinical space, these hours must be completed during the day. Students may also not perform these clinical and/or externship hours with their employer in the capacity of their regular position.

Surgical Technology program

Sullivan University’s Surgical Technology program prepares students to assist in surgeries and ensure patient care and safety. The program blends classroom learning, lab training, and supervised clinical experience. Graduates are fully prepared to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam.
