SULLIVAN UNIVERSITY HUMAN RESOURCES LEADERSHIP PROGRAM GRANTED MAJOR DISTINCTION

LOUISVILLE, KY- Sullivan University’s Human Resource Leadership Program has been granted a major distinction that will provide students with the opportunity to more quickly launch their careers.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the largest human resources professional society in the world, has announced that Sullivan University’s Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs in Human Resource Management “align with the recommended requirements for Human Resource (HR) degree programs as outlined in the organization’s HR Curriculum Guidebook,” approval which will extend until the end of 2022.

“This is a key differentiator for Sullivan’s program and one that makes our program and our students even more desirable to employers,” said Dr. Teresa A. Daniel, Dean and Professor of Sullivan’s Human Resource Leadership Program. “When you combine well-developed courses taught by only terminally-degreed faculty with significant HR experience, SHRM’s approval of our courses and focus is a major distinction that truly sets us apart from other HR programs.”

The distinction is a clear boost for students and provides them a fast-track opportunity to apply for the SHRM Certified Professional exam (SHRM-CP) or the SHRM Certified Senior Professional exam (SHRM-SCP) which are considered by most HR professionals to be the “gold standard” of professional HR certifications. Students can take the certification exam in the capstone course during their final year of study provided they have a minimum of 500 hours of relevant HR experience.

“We are currently evaluating all of our HR courses in an effort to ensure that our assignments, projects, and other deliverables will help students to meet this 500-hour requirement, which includes credit for experiential learning activities,” Dr. Daniel said.

Sullivan students who meet SHRM’s eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to complete the Human Resource Leadership program with their degree in hand, as well as with their professional certification.

“When we started the Human Resources Leadership programs we worked closely with SHRM to ensure that our programs were aligned with their standards,” said Sullivan University Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Davisson. “This new level of recognition for our programs will allow our graduates a great advantage in their career endeavors, and give employers added confidence in hiring our graduates.”

Only about 300 institutions from around the world have been recognized as being in alignment with SHRM’s recommended requirements. Every three to five years, SHRM’s revalidates its HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates to offer the most timely direction to graduates and HR professionals competing in the job market.

“SHRM’s recognition is yet another example of Sullivan University’s commitment and legacy of offering our students curriculum developed by seasoned professionals with real-world experience,” Dr. Daniel said. “Employers know that SHRM’s stamp of approval means that when they hire Sullivan graduates, they are getting employees with the latest knowledge, training and education that the HR field demands.”

With 285,000 members in more than 165 countries, SHRM has been the leading provider of resources serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing the practice of human resource management for nearly 70 years. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.
