SULLIVAN PROFESSOR JOINS BOARD OF SIGMA BETA DELTA HONOR SOCIETY

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Dr. James Maxwell, a professor of business management at Sullivan University’s Lexington campus, has joined the Board of Directors of the Sigma Beta Delta business student honor society.

The mission of Sigma Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment among students of business, management and administration, and to promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Sigma Beta Delta was established to honor students who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation.

“I am very honored I have been selected to serve on the Sigma Beta Delta Board of Directors,” Dr. Maxwell said. “This is a true honor for me and for Sullivan University. At Sullivan we are committed to preparing students for the next phase of their lives. Sigma Beta Delta recognizes and embraces students who have a 3.5 cumulative grand-point average and who have displayed scholastic achievement, team work and leadership skills.”

Other schools with members on the Sigma Beta Delta Board of Directors include the University of Virginia, East Carolina University, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Winston-Salem State University.

“Dr. Maxwell’s passion for studying and enhancing the world of business and leadership is highlighted by his desire to share his expertise with students,” said Sullivan–Lexington Executive Director David Keene. “Now, students across the country and around the world will benefit from his expertise by his service to Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society.”

Students honored by Sigma Beta Delta have internship, scholarship, fellowship and networking opportunities. There are also membership benefits, including information on career openings.

Sullivan’s Lexington campus has been a Sigma Beta Delta member since 2008.

“Students who are Sigma Beta Delta members benefit through the various fellowship and other programs that can be critical for preparing students for when they are in front of an employer seeking a job,” said Dr. Maxwell, who has served as faculty adviser to his campus’s Sigma Beta Delta. “On campus, we bring in business leaders from different disciplines to speak to and meet with the students, which also helps prepare them for the business world and life after graduation.”

Dr. Maxwell holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Maryville University; a Master of Business Administration from Maryville University; a Ph.D. from Webster University; and a Ph.D. from Indiana State University.
