LOCAL STUDENT PHARMACIST COMPOUNDING COMPETITION

The Local Student Pharmacist Compounding Competition (Local SPCC-2015) was held at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy (SUCOP) on January 16, 2015. This competition allows students to develop practical skills to solve compounding problems above what is taught in the curriculum.

A total of 6 teams (18 pharmacy students) participated in the event. All of them received the same prescription orders to compound an oral troche, an ophthalmic solution, and a topical cream/gel. A panel of judges consisting of Dr. Uyen Le, Dr. Gopal Pillai, Dr. Abeer AlGhananeem, and Professor Barbara Jolly carefully reviewed all products and ranked them according to the rubric of Master formulation records and final preparations.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Local SPCC-2015 is the Team of Tanya Nguyen, Liem Tran, and Dung Ngo, all from the class of 2015. The winning team will receive a travel award to represent SUCOP at the National Student Pharmacist Compounding Competition, held at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy on March 21-22, 2015.

A sincere thanks to SUCOP for sponsoring the competition and the travel award and a special thanks to all participants who made the competition such a success!
