SULLIVAN’S DR. ABUALHAIJA WINS RESEARCH AWARD

Dr. Mohamed Abualhaija, who teaches accounting, management, and finance in the Graduate School at the Lexington campus, recently won the best prize for journal award for the Global Review of Accounting and Finance during the 16th World Business Research Conference. The conference was hosted by the Global Research Institute for Business Academics (GRIBA), an Australian research institute, and was held in San Francisco on July 28th and 29th.

Abualhaija acted as the finance session chair during the conference, which hosted participants from seventeen countries, and presented his research paper: The Financial Performance of Selected EU Air Carriers Before and After Introduction of IFRS.

“The paper examined the impact of the accounting systems used on the selected profitability indicators of selected European air carriers,” said Abualhaija. “The study found no statistical significance between these variables. The variance in profitability indicators under both accounting systems was explained by other factors to include management practices and industry unique factors.”

His research, which will be published in four months, earned him fellowship into GRIBA. This will afford him the opportunity to attend future conferences and will open the door for him to become an elected editorial board member of GRIBA’s global peer review journals.

Abualhaija has been with Sullivan University for two years, and when asked what his favorite part of teaching here was, he emphasized the supportive environment. “My best reward is during the commencement ceremony when I see the many students who put genuine effort to learn and graduate,” said Abualhaija. “Their eyes are full of hope and excitement to start the next chapter of their lives and find a career that gives them a sense of fulfillment.”

He highlighted his gratitude to the university’s leadership at all levels, particularly the Lexington campus leaders Dr. Jerry Sims, Mr. David Tudor, and Mr. David Keene, for their continued support and encouragement. He’s honored to have the opportunity to teach people of different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and knows there will always be more for him to learn from his students.
