Biography

Dr. Sumanasekera obtained her Ph.D. (2003) in Molecular Toxicology from Pennsylvania State University. She earned her M.S. Degrees in Toxicology (2000), and in Biological Sciences (1997) from University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University respectively. She obtained her B.S. in Zoology & Chemistry from University of Colombo, Sri-Lanka. Dr. Sumanasekera has completed her American Heart Association post doctoral fellowship in the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Louisville. She worked as a Visiting Professor at Bellarmine University in 2007. Dr. Sumanasekera most recently was employed at the University of Louisville in the Dept. of Biology as an Adjunct Professor and in the Institute of Molecular Cardiology as a Research Associate. She has published 30 articles and abstracts, among which she is the first author of 25. Dr. Sumanasekera has completed numerous research projects and presented her research in many scientific conferences. She was successful in obtaining grant funding. She has been nominated as one of the most notable people in America by the selection committee of Who’s Who in America for the inclusion of her biography in 2010 edition.

Research Interests: Cardiovascular Research, Environmental Toxicology, and Pharmaceutical applications of Nanotechnology.
