EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DIRECTOR PRESENTS AT STATEWIDE CONFERENCE

The Governor’s office sponsored Ready Kids, a statewide Early Childhood Education conference, at the Galt House June 16-18.

On Monday, June 16, Sullivan University hosted the annual board meeting of Kentucky Association for Early Childhood Education (KAECE). The meeting featured catering by Julep’s and was very well received by the board members. Vicke Bowman, Early Childhood Education (ECE) director at Sullivan, serves as the vice president for membership on the KAECE board.

Bowman also presented “The Happiest Baby on the Block” on Tuesday to a group of about 20 participants. Those planning the conference requested this session, as Bowman holds a certification as a trainer for that program. That afternoon, Bowman also presented a session entitled, “Good Night, Sleep Tight” about sleep and young children. There were about 40 participants for that session.

During two sessions on Wednesday, “APProaching Common Core Standards in the Preschool Classroom” was presented to about 100 total participants. Bowman developed this presentation as a result of a Sullivan University research grant involving Sullivan ECE students and childcare providers in the community.

The conference was a success and helped early childhood professionals update and refine skills needed to serve the children of Kentucky. Sullivan University was well represented at the conference.
