Veterans Day 196

CELEBRATING VETERANS DAY BY HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE

On Saturday, November 8, a community event was held in honor of Veterans Day at the General George Patton Museum of Leadership. It was sponsored by Jeff Kennedy, owner of HOPE: Business Training Development Institutes, a retired veteran himself and the son of a Korean and Vietnam War veteran.

The purpose of the program was to thank service leaders for their selfless volunteerism in the community. Along with an awards presentation, there was live music, food, and vendors that addressed employment opportunities and health and wellness.

Several outstanding community members from Louisville, Radcliff and surrounding areas were honored. These individuals have supported events to honor returning Army units, feed the homeless, and provided music for service members and their families to enjoy.

Active duty soldiers were honored for providing community outreach to support and motivate students from a variety of schools in the Hardin County, Fort Knox, and Larue County school districts. These service members volunteered their time, purchased school supplies, read to students, and provided a variety of motivational experiences through service learning activities for children in the region.

In addition, three outstanding leaders in Kentucky were honored: Dawne Gee of Wave3 News, Senator Dennis Parrett, and Representative Dennis Horlander.

President Glenn Sullivan of The Sullivan University System presented a gift of appreciation for their efforts to not only educate citizens of Kentucky, but also for their support for active duty and veteran students. The gift was a piece of art that represents an individual standing on a peak of a mountain and pulling up others. Jeff Kennedy explained how The Sullivan University System makes an effort every day to match these values of pulling up others through education.

Three students from The Sullivan University System participated in the event. Robert Barajas was the Master of Ceremony; Kevin Hilton, who works with veterans by providing free boat trips to help them relax in a stress-free environment; and Patricia Williams, a staffing specialist who works with veterans and student to find employment.
