What specific skills or knowledge are taught in the program?
The curriculum is based on the six bodies of knowledge (strategic management, workforce planning and employment, human resource development, total rewards, employee and labor relations, and risk management) that are recommended by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the national organization for HR professionals. In addition, the program is one of the first in the nation to offer a course in HR analytics, which SHRM has confirmed as a key competency for HR professionals in the future.
What are potential jobs or employment settings for graduates?
Most of our graduates find employment in either corporate or government settings, with jobs focused on compensation, benefits, employment, recruiting and training and development. Titles typically range from HR Specialist to HR Manager or Director.
What is the most important or unique aspect about this program?
There are three key factors that make our HRL programs stand out:
- The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has confirmed that Sullivan's MSHRL program fully aligns with the SHRM's HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates (which define HR educational standards and help business schools develop solid degree programs that follow these standards).
- Our program is among the first to recognize the importance of human capital analytics as a key HR competency and we have developed a course devoted entirely to this emerging topic.
- Finally, the program's capstone course prepares you to seek PHR or SPHR certification at the completion of your studies, further enhancing your skills and marketability.
What are good resources for finding out more on this career field?
The primary source of information is the Society for Human Resource Management (www.shrm.org), the national organization for HR professionals with more than 250,000 members worldwide. Also, most cities have local chapters, which can also be a good resource.
