Dr. Stephen Coppock Honored at Fall Graduation

Sullivan University’s Fall 2010 graduation is now history and The Herald is pleased to give you highlights of that wonderful event. One again the formal commencement was held at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. More than 4,000 graduates, family and guests from Sullivan’s campuses in Louisville, Lexington and Fort Knox attended.

The commencement speaker, Dr. Stephen Coppock was a familiar face on the dais to many. Dr. Coppock, served as Chief Executive Officer of Sullivan until his retirement in 2009; he currently teaches at Sullivan’s Graduate School. In addition to sharing some of Sullivan University’s history, Dr. Coppock also spoke about the five things he learned in 42 years as a college administrator . . . "life’s not fair (GOMO=get over it, move on), the quality of your relationships is the quality of your life, all changes are not improvements all people have inherent worth and dignity, and there’s a right and wrong way to do everything... choose the right way."

With smiles and pride, the graduates in their caps and gowns, crossed the stage to receive certificates, diplomas, associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Dr. A.R. Sullivan, Chancellor of The Sullivan University System. Cameras flashed as families and friends cheered their graduates, now armed with the confidence to pursue their career dreams.

Sullivan’s graduations are unique. Rather than one held in May of each year like most other collegiate institutions, Sullivan University graduates students four times a year, every January, March, June and September and holds two formal commencements in April and October. Sullivan’s 2011 Spring graduation ceremony will also be at Southeast Christian Church on Saturday, April 30 at 9 am. Everyone is invited to attend and share in the joy of this wonderful occasion.
