Dr. Robert A. Metry
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Dr. Metry is a lifelong learner and considers himself a passionate advocate of learning in every form. Following 45 years of business and law practice and two "retirements" he joined the Sullivan University faculty. He teaches the classroom and online courses BUS204 (Introduction to Business Law and Ethics) in the College of Business Administration and LAW545 (Employment Law) for the Graduate School. His proud association with the Sullivan University System spans five decades, including non-executive chairman of the board of directors and vice president for legal services. He served for several years as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of a national healthcare services provider, which he co-founded in 1998. In his corporate counsel positions he handled legal compliance as well as contracting and corporate governance matters, and oversaw the companies' human resources functions.
Between degrees from the University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences and College of Law, he served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. After graduation from law school he completed a postgraduate fellowship at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC. Among his other "careers" he has been a medical organization CEO and was Administrative Assistant and Counsel to Kentucky Governor Louie B. Nunn.
When not teaching he writes, mostly fiction. He recently published a legal thriller, A Jury of Peers, which has a Louisville setting but deals with the clash between the fantasy world of Internet role play gaming and the reality of society and the legal system. The sequel is in production.
